Westinghouse iGen2200

Answers and step-by-step fixes from the official Westinghouse manual.

Which light is on?

Common problems

The generator won't start or runs rough

  1. Is the oil level low? Check oil level and add oil if necessary.
  2. Is the generator out of fuel? Check fuel level and add fuel if necessary.
  3. Is the fuel old or contaminated? Drain fuel and refill with fresh fuel.
  4. Is something still plugged in? Unplug or switch off any electrical cords or devices from the 240-Volt AC receptacles before starting.

Engine runs but there's no AC power

  1. Is the output indicator light green? If the output indicator light is green, AC output should be available, so check the connected cord or device next.
  2. Is the plug fully inserted? Check that the connected electrical cord or appliance plug is fully inserted into the outlet socket.
  3. Could the plugged-in device be faulty? Connect a known working appliance directly into the generator's outlet to verify the electrical output.
  4. Is the overload alarm light red? A red overload light means there is an overload or short circuit in the connected load. Disconnect everything, then stop and restart the engine.

Engine stops while running

  1. Is the generator out of fuel? Check fuel level and add fuel if necessary.
  2. Is the fuel cap vent closed? Move fuel cap vent to the ON position.
  3. Is the oil level low? Check oil level and add oil if necessary.
  4. Is there an overload or short circuit? Disconnect all electrical cords and devices from the generator, then restart with the ECO throttle switch off and reconnect loads one at a time.

Engine runs erratically or won't hold a steady speed

  1. Does the speed change with the connected load? Engine speed naturally varies when the electrical load changes, especially with ECO throttle on. This is normal.
  2. Has the engine warmed up yet? Disconnect all loads and let the engine run for at least 2 minutes after moving the choke to RUN or ON before reconnecting anything.
  3. Is the choke still on with a warm engine? Move choke control to the RUN or ON position.
  4. Is the air filter dirty or blocked? Check air filter element and clean if necessary.

Step-by-step guides

Clean the air filter

  1. Turn off the generator and let it cool
  2. Move the generator to a flat, level surface
  3. Remove the engine access cover
  4. Undo the central fixing screw and remove the air filter cover
  5. Take out the foam filter element, noting its shape and orientation
  6. Wash the element in detergent and warm water, squeezing gently
  7. Rinse the element in fresh water
  8. Coat the element in clean engine oil and squeeze out the excess
  9. Put the air filter and engine covers back on

Change the engine oil

  1. Let the engine cool for several minutes
  2. Remove the engine access cover
  3. Place an oil pan under the oil fill plug
  4. Clean around the oil fill plug and remove it
  5. Tilt the generator to drain the oil into the pan
  6. Let the oil drain completely
  7. Fill the crankcase with new oil to the correct level
  8. Reinstall the oil fill plug and access cover
