Weber Genesis S-310

Answers and step-by-step fixes from the official Weber manual.

Common problems

The grill won't light

  1. Is gas actually flowing to the burners? Use a lit match held near the burner (with the match holder under the right side table) to see if gas reaches the burner before blaming the ignition system.
  2. Do you hear a ticking sound when you press the ignition button? If you don't hear ticking, the problem is in the ignition system, not the gas.
  3. Is the ignition battery old or wrapped in plastic? Remove any plastic wrap on the battery, confirm it's installed correctly, and swap in a fresh one if it's old.
  4. Are the ignition wires connected securely? Check that the wires are firmly attached to the ignition button terminals and to the ignition module.

Flame is weak, uneven, or won't reach full heat

  1. Did you turn on the tank before closing all the burner knobs? Doing this can trip the regulator's flow limiter. Close the tank valve, turn every burner knob fully off, wait, then relight.
  2. Is the LP tank low or empty? Refill the tank if it's running low.
  3. Is the fuel hose bent or kinked? Straighten the hose so gas can flow freely.
  4. Are the burner ports dirty? Clean the burner ports to restore an even flame.

You smell gas or hear a hissing sound

  1. Are the spider screens on the burners clogged? Dust and debris on the insect screens can starve the burner of air and cause yellow, lazy flames with a gas smell.
  2. Could the LP tank valve seal be damaged? If you hear hissing, check the tank's internal rubber seal. If it's damaged, return the tank to your local retailer rather than using it.

Too many flare-ups, or lid looks like peeling paint

  1. Does the inside of the lid have paint-like flakes? This is carbonized cooking vapor, not a defect. Clean the lid to stop flakes from landing on food.
  2. Is there leftover food residue from the last meal? Always preheat on the highest setting for 10 to 15 minutes to burn off residue before cooking.
  3. Does the inside of the grill need a full clean? Grease buildup causes flare-ups. Clean the inside from the top down.

Step-by-step guides

Light the grill with the electronic ignition

  1. Open the grill lid.
  2. Check that all burner control knobs are off.
  3. Turn the LP tank on slowly and wait.
  4. Turn the leftmost burner knob to start/high.
  5. Push and hold the electronic ignition button.
  6. Check that the burner lit through the cooking grates.
  7. If it didn't light, turn the knob off and wait.
  8. If it lit, repeat for the remaining burners.

Check for gas leaks

  1. Wet the fittings with a soap and water solution.
  2. Slowly open the tank valve while watching for bubbles.
  3. If bubbles appear at the tank, shut off the gas.
  4. If bubbles appear at the regulator, shut off the gas.
  5. If no bubbles appear, turn off the gas and rinse the fittings.

Clean the inside of the grill

  1. Turn the grill off and let it cool fully.
  2. Brush carbonized grease from the inside of the lid.
  3. Brush debris off the cooking grates.
  4. Scrape the FLAVORIZER bars with a plastic scraper.
  5. Brush across the top of the burner ports.
  6. Clean the spider screens with a soft bristle brush.
  7. Scrape the heat deflectors with a plastic scraper.
  8. Scrape debris from the cookbox into the bottom opening.
