Weber Genesis II E-310 GBS
Answers and step-by-step fixes from the official Weber manual.
Common problems
The grill won't light
- Is gas actually reaching the burners? Follow the match test to check for gas flow before blaming the ignition button.
- Does the burner light with a match but not the ignition button? If match lighting works, the problem is in the electronic ignition system, not the gas supply.
- Is the ignition battery new and installed correctly? Remove any plastic wrap from the battery, confirm it is installed correctly, and swap in a new battery if it is old.
- Are the ignition wires securely connected? Check that the wires are firmly attached to the ignition button terminals and to the ignition module.
I smell gas or hear a hissing sound
- Is the valve seal inside the LPG cylinder damaged? Inspect the rubber seal in the cylinder valve. If it is damaged, return the cylinder to your local retailer.
- Are the spider screens on the burners blocked? Dirty spider screens can cause a gas smell with yellow, lazy flames. Clean them with a soft bristle brush.
- Did you leak-check the fittings with soapy water? Wet the cylinder and regulator fittings with soap and water. Bubbles mean a leak, so turn off the gas and do not use the grill.
Heat is low, uneven, or one burner won't light
- Did you turn the gas on before closing all the knobs? Turning on the cylinder with a knob still open, or opening it too fast, can trip the regulator's flow limiter. Close all knobs and the cylinder valve, wait five minutes, then relight.
- Is the LPG cylinder low or empty? Low fuel is a common cause of weak or uneven flames.
- Is the fuel hose bent or kinked? A kinked hose restricts gas flow. Straighten the hose.
- Are the burner ports dirty? Clogged ports cause erratic or short flames. Clean the ports with a stainless steel brush.
Flare-ups or peeling paint flakes inside the lid
- Did you fully preheat before cooking? Preheat on the highest setting for 10 to 15 minutes to burn off leftover residue before it causes flare-ups.
- Is the inside of the grill overdue for a clean? Grease buildup inside the cookbox causes flare-ups. Clean the grill from the top down.
- Is there grease buildup in the tray or catch pan? Check the slide-out grease tray and catch pan before every use and remove excess grease.
- Are the flakes just carbon, not paint? Flakes on the inside of the lid are carbonised grease and smoke, not a defect. Brush them off.
Step-by-step guides
Light the grill with the ignition button
- Open the grill lid.
- Push in and turn all burner knobs clockwise to make sure they are off.
- Turn on the gas supply at the cylinder.
- Turn the leftmost burner knob to start/high.
- Push and hold the ignition button until you hear ticking and the burner lights.
- Look through the grates to confirm the burner is lit.
- If it doesn't light, turn the knob off and wait before trying again.
- Repeat for the remaining burners, moving left to right.
Check gas flow with a match
- Open the grill lid.
- Make sure all burner knobs are off, then turn on the gas supply at the cylinder.
- Strike a match using the matchstick holder under the right side table.
- Insert the lit match through the grates, past the Flavorizer bars, next to the leftmost burner.
- Turn that burner's knob to start/high and watch for ignition.
- If it doesn't light within 4 seconds, turn the knob off and wait before retrying.
Clean the burners and ports
- Turn the barbecue off and let it cool completely.
- Brush across the top of the burner ports with a clean stainless steel brush.
- Brush carefully around the ignition electrode to avoid damaging it.
- Find the spider screens where the burner ends meet the valves under the control panel.
- Clean the spider/insect screens with a soft bristle brush.
