Answers and step-by-step fixes from the official Fisher & Paykel manual.
What is the display showing?
- Hot Surface indicator flashing: A cooking zone is still too hot to touch. This symbol flashes over any zone that is still hot, then stays steadily lit even after the cooktop is off.
- Pan detection symbol flashing with the heat setting: No suitable pan is detected. The zone will not heat because no pan is in place, the pan is wrong for induction, or it is too small or off-centre.
- PowerBoost symbol (P) flashing then switching off: PowerBoost is finishing its boost period. After the boost time, the zone drops back to the top normal setting on its own.
- P flashing on the first cooking zone: PowerBoost cannot run on both zones in that pair. You tried to set PowerBoost on a zone directly in front of or behind one already boosting, which is not allowed.
- P flashing when trying to set PowerBoost: PowerBoost is temporarily unavailable. The cooktop is protecting itself from overheating and will not allow PowerBoost right now.
- Symbol shown in the timer display at power on: The cooktop is in Display mode. The heat setting lights up but the zone will not actually heat a pan while in this mode.
- All displays flashing with a continuous beep: Liquid or an object is on the touch controls. Spilled liquid, an object, or someone resting on the control panel can trigger this alarm.
- Error code (letters alternating with one or two digits) in a zone display: A technical fault has shut the cooktop or zone off. The cooktop or a zone has switched off on its own, with a tone and an error code shown.
Common problems
The cooktop won't turn on
- Is it connected and switched on at the wall? Check the power connection and the wall switch.
- Is there a power outage in your home or area? Check if the power is out more widely before assuming a fault.
- Still won't turn on after checking everything? If it still does not turn on, contact service for help.
A pan won't heat up
- Is your pan suitable for induction? Test it with a magnet on the base; if the magnet grips firmly all over, the pan works on induction.
- Is the pan the right size and centred on the zone? A pan that is too small or off to one side will not be detected.
- Is the heat setting flashing instead of staying on? A flashing setting means no heating is happening until a suitable pan is in place.
- Has it been 10 minutes with no pan detected? After 10 minutes with no suitable pan, the cooktop switches that zone off by itself.
The touch controls won't respond, or keep beeping
- Are the controls locked? Touch and hold the keylock control to unlock them.
- Is there water on the controls, or are you using your fingertip? Dry the control area and use the ball of your finger, not the tip.
- Has liquid spilled onto the touch control area? Switch off at the wall, dry the controls, then switch back on.
- Is an object on the controls, or is someone resting a hand on them? Clear anything sitting on or touching the control panel.
The glass top is getting scratched
- Are you using cookware with rough or jagged edges? Switch to cookware with flat, smooth bases.
- Are you using an abrasive scourer or cleaner? Harsh scourers or cleaning agents can scratch the glass.
