Miele CVA 6405
Answers and step-by-step fixes from the official Miele manual.
What does the display say?
- F1, F2, F3, F4, F80, F81, F82, F83: Internal fault, restart after 1 hour. The machine has detected an internal fault and needs to be reset.
- F74, F77, F225, F226, F235, F236: Internal fault, restart after 2 minutes. The machine has detected an internal fault and needs a short reset.
- F73 or Check the brew unit: Brew unit out of position or dirty. The brew unit cannot be positioned correctly, or it is dirty and the coffee cannot be processed.
- Too much ground coffee: Too much ground coffee was added. More than one scoop of ground coffee was put in the chute, so the brew unit could not process it.
- Check water intake: Problem with the water intake. The machine cannot draw in water properly.
- Push the water container in until it engages: Water tank not seated properly. The water tank is not sitting correctly in the machine.
- Empty the drip tray: Drip tray message appears when tray is empty. The tray may not be fully pushed in, or its sensing contacts are dirty.
- Descale the appliance: The machine needs descaling. Lime scale has built up and the machine must be descaled before it can make more drinks.
- Fill and insert milk container: Milk flask message appears though it's filled. The milk flask lid may be dirty so the sensor cannot detect it properly.
- Days until "Clean milk pipework": Countdown to the next milk pipework cleaning. This counts down the days left before the milk pipework must be cleaned.
- Clean milk pipework: Milk pipework must be cleaned now. You cannot make milk drinks until this cleaning is done.
- Water tank empty. Continue? Yes / No: Water tank ran out during preparation. The tank emptied while a drink was being made.
- Please wait... or Preheating (stuck): Display stuck on Please wait or Preheating. This can happen if the water connection is set to On but the machine isn't actually connected to a water supply.
- Display lights up but machine does not heat up: Showroom demo mode is on. The machine is in a store demo mode, so it will not heat up or make drinks.
Common problems
The machine won't turn on
- Did you hold the On/Off button down long enough? Tap the On/Off button and keep it pressed for at least 3 seconds.
- Is the plug fully in the outlet? Push the plug all the way into the electrical outlet.
- Has a fuse tripped? A tripped fuse can mean the machine, the outlet voltage, or another appliance is at fault. Reinsert the plug and contact an electrician or Miele Service if it keeps happening.
The coffee doesn't taste right or isn't hot
- Did you preheat the cup? Small, thick-walled cups cool coffee fastest. Preheat the cup with hot water first.
- Is the brew temperature set too low? Raise the brewing temperature in the Parameters menu.
- Are the brew unit filters blocked? Remove the brew unit and clean it by hand under warm water.
- Does the machine need descaling? If coffee flows very slowly, lime scale buildup is the likely cause.
Milk won't froth properly
- Is the milk cold enough? Good milk froth only forms with cold milk, below 50°F (10°C). Check the temperature in the milk flask.
- Is the milk flask pushed in all the way? Push the milk flask in until it reaches the limit stop so it doesn't draw in air.
- Is the main dispenser assembled correctly? Check that all the dispenser parts are fitted as described in cleaning and care.
- Is the milk pipework in the flask lid dirty? Take the lid apart and clean the milk pipework with the brush provided.
The display shows an error code or won't respond
- Does it show F1, F2, F3, F4, F80, F81, F82 or F83? This is an internal fault. Turn the machine off and wait before restarting.
- Does it show F73 or Check the brew unit? The brew unit is out of position or dirty. Remove and clean it.
- Is Please wait or Preheating stuck on screen? The water connection setting may be On while the machine isn't actually plumbed in. Fill the tank and check the setting.
- Are the sensor buttons not responding at all? Open the appliance door to stop the current process, then disconnect power at the outlet or breaker.
