Miele CS 1112 E

Answers and step-by-step fixes from the official Miele manual.

Which light is on?

Common problems

The cooking zones won't heat up

  1. Has the mains fuse tripped? Check the mains fuse. If it has tripped, contact a qualified electrician or Miele.
  2. Could it be a technical fault? Turn the control to 0, then disconnect the power for about a minute and try again.
  3. Still not heating after a reset? If the hob still won't heat up after resetting, contact a qualified electrician or Miele.

A cooking zone switches off on its own

  1. Is there a pan on the zone? A zone switched on without a pan, or heating an empty pan, can trigger the safety cut-out.
  2. Is the pan base sitting evenly on the zone? A pan that isn't flat or doesn't conduct heat well can make the overheating protection trip.
  3. Does the heat cycle on and off at the highest setting? This is the overheating protection working as designed. The zone will heat again once it has cooled.

Food is taking too long to come to the boil

  1. Is the control turned fully to the top setting? Check that the mark on the control is pointing past '12', not left between 12 and 0.
  2. Are you using the right setting for the amount of food? Deep pans, larger quantities, or cooking without a lid all need a higher setting.

There's a smell or vapour the first time I use it

  1. Is this the first time the hob has been heated? The metal parts have a protective coating that gives off a slight smell and some vapour the first time it heats up.
  2. Is it harmful? This doesn't mean the connection or appliance is faulty, and it's not harmful to health.

Step-by-step guides

Reset the hob after a power fault

  1. Turn the cooking zone control to 0.
  2. Disconnect the appliance from the power for about a minute, by switching off at the isolator or removing the mains fuse.
  3. Reconnect the power and switch the hob back on.

Clean the ceramic surface

  1. Let the hob cool down completely before cleaning.
  2. Wipe off coarse soiling with a damp cloth.
  3. Remove stubborn soiling with a shielded scraper blade.
  4. Apply Miele ceramic and stainless steel hob cleaner or a suitable ceramic cleaner.
  5. Wipe with a damp cloth, then dry with a soft, dry cloth.

Remove melted sugar, plastic or foil from a hot zone

  1. Switch off the appliance straight away.
  2. Put on oven gloves before touching the hot area.
  3. Scrape off the residue immediately while still hot, using a shielded scraper blade.
  4. Let the hob cool down, then clean it as usual.
