What does the display say?

• Degrease the brew unit: Time to degrease the brew unit. The machine needs its brew unit cleaned of coffee oils with a cleaning tablet.
• Descale the appliance: Time to descale the machine. Limescale has built up and needs removing with a descaling tablet.
• Fit the brew unit with a tablet in it: Put a cleaning tablet in the brew unit before refitting it. This appears partway through the degreasing programme once the brew unit has been cleaned by hand.
• Rinse the water container and fill with fresh water to the descaling symbol: Rinse and refill the water container. This appears partway through descaling once the first stage is done.
• Save: Portion size reached the minimum amount. This appears while setting a portion size once enough has been dispensed to allow saving.

Common problems

The display says to degrease the brew unit

1. Have you got a cleaning tablet? You need one Miele cleaning tablet for this programme, which takes about 12 minutes.
2. Did you start the maintenance programme? Touch OK and the programme will begin; follow the instructions shown in the display.
3. Are you cleaning the brew unit correctly? Only wash the brew unit by hand in warm water; do not use any cleaning agents.

The display says to descale the appliance

1. Have you got a descaling tablet? You need one descaling tablet, and the process takes about 12 minutes.
2. Did descaling solution spill anywhere? Wipe up any spills right away, as the solution can damage surfaces and natural floors.
3. Does the display ask you to rinse and refill? Remove the water container, rinse it, and fill it with fresh water to the descaling mark.

The milk froth isn't creamy

1. Are you using cold milk? For high quality froth, always use milk that is below 10 degrees C.
2. Is the milk pipework connected properly? Connect the central spout to the milk flask or milk siphon using the milk pipework.
3. Is the milk flask filled correctly? Don't overfill the flask; fill it to a maximum of 2 cm below the rim.

The central spout won't come apart for cleaning

1. Is the spout still in its uppermost position? It can't be taken apart like that; it must be moved into the maintenance position first.
2. Have you held the control for 3 seconds? Press and hold the control to move the spout into the maintenance position before pulling off the cover.

Step-by-step guides

Degrease the brew unit

1. Touch OK to start the maintenance programme
2. Release the brew unit by pressing and holding the button under its handle
3. Pull the brew unit carefully out of the machine
4. Clean the brew unit by hand under warm running water
5. Wipe any remaining coffee off the filters
6. Dry the funnel in the brew unit
7. Push the brew unit back into the machine with a tablet fitted
8. Lock the brew unit by turning the handle to the right
9. Close the appliance door and follow the remaining display instructions

Descale the appliance

1. Fill the water container to the descaling symbol with lukewarm water
2. Drop the descaling tablet into the water
3. Push the water container back into the machine
4. When prompted, remove the water container and rinse it thoroughly
5. Refill the water container to the descaling mark with fresh tap water

Clean the central spout

1. Press and hold the control for 3 seconds to reach the maintenance position
2. Pull off the stainless steel cover, then pull off the dispensing unit
3. Twist off the upper section with the milk pipework holder
4. Clean all the removed parts thoroughly
5. Fit the dispensing unit back together
6. Push the dispensing unit back in and replace the stainless steel cover
