Breville Aroma Style Electronic LCM700
Answers and step-by-step fixes from the official Breville manual.
What does the display show or which light is on?
- 12:00 flashing: Clock is not set. When the machine is plugged in and switched on, the display flashes 12:00 with the AM icon until you set the time of day.
- ON/OFF light red: Machine is brewing. The light beside the ON/OFF button turns red once you switch the machine on and coffee starts to drip through.
- STRENGTH light orange: Stronger coffee selected. Pressing the STRENGTH button before switching the machine on lights it orange and brews a stronger coffee.
- ON/OFF light flashing green: Setting the delay brew time. When you press PROGRAM, the ON/OFF light flashes green while you choose the brew start time.
- ON/OFF light solid green: Delay brew is set. Once you confirm the start time, the ON/OFF light glows solid green to show the machine is waiting to brew.
- ON/OFF light red after delay start: Automatic brewing has started. At the pre-set time the machine starts brewing on its own and the ON/OFF light turns red to show it is working.
- ON/OFF light red after brewing finishes: Machine still switched on, keeping coffee warm. After brewing, the hot plate keeps coffee warm for two hours and the red light stays lit until the machine is switched off.
Common problems
Water or coffee isn't dripping through
- Is the carafe properly in place with the lid on? The carafe must fit securely on the hot plate with its lid closed, or water or coffee may overflow instead of dripping normally.
- Turn the machine off and check the filter basket If nothing is dripping, switch the machine off, switch off at the outlet, unplug it and wait 10 minutes before opening the water tank lid to check the filter basket.
- Has brewing slowed down because of mineral build-up? Mineral deposits from hard water can build up in the tank and tubes and extend brew time. Run a descaling cycle to clear them.
Delay brew isn't starting automatically
- Is the clock set to the correct time of day? The clock must be set to the time of day before the delay brew can work automatically.
- Has the machine stayed powered on at the outlet? The machine must stay powered on and not switched off at the power outlet, or the clock and delay brew program will need to be set again.
- Did you confirm the start time and press DELAY BREW again? After entering the time, press DELAY BREW to confirm it, then prepare the coffee and press DELAY BREW a second time to arm the program.
Coffee tastes weak or watery
- Is the coffee ground finely enough? Coarse grounds let water pass through too quickly, giving poor extraction and weak flavor. Use finely ground coffee for drip filter machines.
- Did you press STRENGTH for a stronger brew? Press the STRENGTH button once before switching the machine on if you want a stronger, bolder cup.
- Are you using enough ground coffee? Use about one heaped teaspoon of ground coffee for every cup you are brewing.
Water or coffee is overflowing
- Is the carafe lid closed and seated correctly on the hot plate? If the carafe isn't properly positioned with its lid on, hot water or coffee can overflow from the filter basket.
- Did you return the carafe right away after pouring mid-cycle? After pouring a cup during brewing, put the carafe straight back on the hot plate so the filter basket doesn't overflow.
- Did you fill the water tank past the maximum line? Don't overfill past the max mark. Excess water drains out the back of the machine through drain holes instead of being used for brewing.
Step-by-step guides

- Make sure the filter holder is firmly in place and close the water tank lid.
- Put the carafe with its lid on, on the hot plate and switch the machine on.
